Interested in a tummy tuck? Our trusted plastic surgeon, operating out of three convenient Connecticut locations, can help. Also known as an abdominoplasty, this procedure removes excess fat and skin from the lower abdominal wall, usually from an area just above the belly button (umbilicus) to the top of the pubic hair line or where a C-section scar might be found. By doing so, the upper abdominal wall skin is stretched downwards and the loose skin of the pubic region is lifted upwards, thereby tightening the skin of the entire abdominal wall.
On most occasions the abdominal wall muscles (“six-pack”) which are found just below the skin and fat layer, are also tightened creating an “internal corset” over which the skin is draped. This creates an abdominal profile that is smoother and firmer. These muscles tend to separate from one another usually due to pregnancy or weight changes and give rise to a “paunch” or bulging of the lower abdominal wall. Stretch marks caused by weight changes and pregnancy that are found between the belly button and the top of the pubic hairline are usually removed. The resulting scar is placed as low as possible so as to be covered by ordinary garments.
You may be a good candidate for abdominoplasty if you have one or more of the following conditions: excess or sagging abdominal skin, an abdomen that protrudes and is out of proportion to the rest of your body, abdominal muscles that have been separated and weakened, and excess fatty tissue that is concentrated on your abdomen wall.
